It turns out Wireshark supports CDP… this is useful as it can therefore be used to interrogate the local switch your PC is connected to, assuming it is a Cisco one. Example output from CDP:
Device ID: BSQ_P3:2_3524:01(V)
Port ID: FastEthernet0/17
Platform: cisco WS-C3550-24-PWR
